Welcome to Tournament ChallengeWelcome to the 2009 Men's Tournament Challenge. Now that the calendar has flipped to March, it's time to become part of the madness. It's quite simple, really. All you have to do is select who you think will win each of the 63 tournament games that take place starting March 19 (for those hoping to pick the opening-round game, you'll have to give Streak for the Cash a try). For each game you get right, you earn points. The point value for a correct pick increases with each round of the tournament, culminating with the championship game April 6. Once you've made your selections, all you do is find a comfortable seat, grab some good eats and the beverage of your choice and pull for your picks to survive and advance. Pretty easy, right? If you pick the most games correctly, you could win $10,000. And just for taking part, you are eligible for the runner-up prize, a $5,000 Best Buy gift card. If you haven't signed up yet, what are you waiting for? Whether you're a major hoop junkie or not, it's a great game to play and track your progress throughout the tournament. You'll see the seeds on the bracket, so you'll know which teams are expected to advance each round. But beware, because upsets happen every year, and picking the correct ones is what separates the haves from the have-nots in Tournament Challenge. If you're looking for help in making your picks, we here at ESPN.com have you covered. Experts like Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas and Andy Katz -- just to name a few -- will weigh in with their thoughts soon after the brackets are determined, so there will be no shortage of opinions for you to consider, if you so choose. The best part about filling out brackets is you can pick whichever teams you want. It's your bracket. And best of all, we'll give you the opportunity to fill out up to 10 different brackets, so you'll have a chance to get creative with your picks on at least one of them. Pick the school with the sharpest colors, take your chances with the schools closest to where you live, or play the mascot card when determining your pick to click. Want to be bold and take a huge underdog to reach the Final Four? If you know someone who took George Mason to get that far three years ago, it's likely they'll never let you forget it. Which school will fill the role of Cinderella this year? Are you a believer that defense wins championships? Then you'll want to consider the likes of Connecticut, with 7-foot-3 Hasheem Thabeet in the middle, and Memphis, which came thisclose to winning it all last year, to name a couple. If you think experience and guard play is more critical to tournament success, preseason favorite North Carolina, led by Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington and Danny Green, might be your choice to cut down the nets. Do you prefer a strong rebounding team like Pittsburgh with DeJuan Blair, or is riding the coattails of a team with the possible top pick in the NBA draft, like Oklahoma and Blake Griffin, more your style? We've got message boards where you can share your thoughts on the Big Dance, brag about your successes or complain about the misfortune and controversial calls that caused your bracket to go to the dogs. This is your chance to stand out from the crowd. There's no reason why you can't find your name at the top of the leaderboard when all is said and done in April. There are 10,000 reasons to give it a shot, so sign up now and put on your dancin' shoes for arguably the best sporting event of the year. Keith Lipscomb is an editor for ESPN.com Fantasy Games. |
